IN EVERY COMMUNITY...boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them.
Boys & Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.
The Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome Family Center has been serving its community since 1963. Our club expands its services to adults and seniors, offering services to all members of the community in a caring, recreational environment including many low cost services for the betterment of our community.
The Boys & Girls Club of Western Broome Family Center is one of 175 organizations nation-wide that have been chosen to receive a Dick's Sports Matter matching grant for its Gymnastics Program through the Dick's Sporting Good's Foundation.
Sports Matter, which was launched by The Dick's Sporting Goods Foundation in response to the growing threat to youth sports, aims to raise awareness of the youth sports crisis and provide up to $2 million in matching funds via a new crowdfunding platform. If the Boys & Girls Club of Western Broome can reach its fundraising goal of $11,752, which is half of what the Club needs to continue its gymnastics program next year, the Dick's Foundation will provide a matching grant for another $11,752! The catch is, if the Club doesn't reach its goal, it doesn't receive any of the funds.
The Club's Gymnastics Program began in the mid-1980s, and has been very successful in graduating youth who are poised to become successful, productive, responsible and caring citizens. Several participants were named Youth of the Year; one was State Champion, and another was Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Champion. Children can begin gymnastics as young as three and continue until they are 18. Gymnastics has transformed many boys and girls into leaders, disciplined athletes, collaborators, and most importantly, strong and healthy young people.
The Club's Gymnastics Team offers our community's youth an affordable way to participate in gymnastics as both exercise and in competition. Team members are encouraged to give back to the team and to the community. Our Gymnastics Team competes at both the local and state levels, and in the Nationals in Orlando, FL. Many team members are state and nationally ranked.
The fundraising campaign for the Boys & Girls Club of Western Broome's Gymnastics Program through the crowdfunding platform runs from April 17 through May 23, 2014. All funds must be raised by May 23, and donations can be made through the on-line crowdfunding platform or you can donate directly to the Boys & Girls Club of Western Broome. Thanks to the generosity of a local foundation and several individuals, the Boys & Girls Club of Western Broome Family Center in Endicott has undergone a major renovation to its Fitness Center.
The newly re-opened Fitness Center nearly doubled in size, and contains new, up-to-date equipment, including cardio and upper and lower body strength training stations. We also have an area for floor exercise with medicine balls, resistance bands, inflatable exercise balls and individual exercise routines.
The Fitness Center is a vital part of Club programming, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and is home to many members each day.
